InnerWireless Reports Record Quarter For Healthcare
Orders; Total First-Quarter Hospital Bookings Exceed $10 Million
Sales driven by hospitals’ requirement
for guaranteed point-of-care wireless coverage
RICHARDSON, Texas
May 1, 2008
InnerWireless®,
Inc., the premier provider of in-building enterprise converged wireless
solutions, today reported more than $10 million in healthcare orders
during the first three months of 2008, the company’s largest-ever
quarter from its healthcare segment. The record sales were fueled
by hospitals’ requirement for guaranteed in-building wireless
coverage that assures access to mission- and life-critical applications
everywhere inside the hospital, with an emphasis on point-of-care
coverage.
Facilities including Childrens Hospital of Los
Angeles; El Camino Hospital, Mountain View, Calif.; and the Baptist
Health
South Florida
system were among the care providers that chose InnerWireless
during the first quarter. Childrens and the Baptist Health South
Florida
hospitals are existing facilities; El Camino is a new 450,000-square-foot
facility expected to open in the summer of 2009 with 300 licensed
beds.
“We chose InnerWireless because they blanket our buildings
with wireless coverage to the edge where patient care is delivered,
and that’s where we absolutely must have guaranteed wireless
connectivity for mission- and life-critical applications,” said
Steven Garske, Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Childrens
Hospital Los Angeles. “The InnerWireless system’s flexibility
was also key to our decision because it can install easily into
both our existing and new-construction facilities. InnerWireless
also gives us long-term flexibility, as adding wireless applications
does not require upgrading the system or implementing additional
expensive components for each new wireless application.”
Instead
of deploying countless discrete wireless systems that each support
only one mobile application or service, hospitals increasingly
want a comprehensive in-building solution to help them control
the accelerating convergence of Wireless Wide Area Networks (WWAN)
and
Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN), the platforms that deliver
mission- and life-critical services such as mobile clinical applications,
cellular/PCS voice and data, and Wi-Fi communications.
To ensure
that physicians and nurses can access mission- and life-critical
wireless applications everywhere, especially at the patient’s
bedside, wireless coverage must evenly and completely blanket the
hospital from its core to the very edge of the structure. By using
the right mix of passive and active components, InnerWireless is
able to achieve both exceptional edge coverage and reliability.
Furthermore, InnerWireless can guarantee complete in-building coverage
and strong wireless signals everywhere because InnerWireless engineers
conduct site surveys, then design a system and deployment plan unique
to the facility, which includes engineering to handle a hospital’s
particular RF challenges.
“InnerWireless specializes in optimizing wireless ecosystems
for convergence, and we are working hard with partners such as Cisco,
Hospira, PatientKeeper, Vocera and ThingMagic to help hospitals
handle the convergence of wireless wide-area and local-area networks
and the many mission- and life-critical applications and devices
that are enabled by guaranteed wireless connectivity,” said
Ed Cantwell, president, CEO and chairman of InnerWireless. “Our
strong first-quarter performance validates the belief that hospitals
are recognizing that spotty wireless coverage or a solution that
is ‘good enough’ simply can’t be trusted to support
everywhere, everytime access to the life-critical applications that
are the bedrock for modern healthcare. InnerWireless specializes
in optimizing wireless ecosystems for lifecritical applications,
making us a truly powerful partner for healthcare as a whole.”
