PHT Reflects on a Year of Exponential Growth for the Company and Entire ePRO Industry

PHT shatters records with 38,000 devices shipped and 50% service bookings growth in 2006

CHARLESTOWN, MA
February 13, 2007

The age of using paper to collect patient reported outcome (PRO) data in clinical research is swiftly coming to a close. Electronic PRO (ePRO) systems solve the problems of unreliable paper data by implementing patient diaries on mobile handheld devices. This provides researchers with real-time access to high quality, timestamped data, thereby enabling safer trials, more conclusive scientific findings and more efficient studies. These tangible benefits are increasingly demanded by the biopharmaceutical companies sponsoring clinical research, and have led to tremendous annual growth for the ePRO industry. The strong overall market segment increase in 2006 was once again paced by PHT Corporation with a 50% year-over-year service bookings growth. PHT is the most experienced ePRO provider in the industry with more than 275 eDiary studies worldwide.

In 2006, PHT alone deployed 38,000 Palm devices, running LogPad® and StudyPad® software, to sites around the world. PHT’s eDiaries are used to capture legible, logical and complete self-assessment reports from patients using the devices at their home or clinical site. 75 major pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies have already experienced the difference that PHT’s ePRO systems deliver in the quality of data collected from subjects. To date, more than 130,000 patients at 18,000 sites have used PHT’s products.

“The value of electronic systems over paper is clear and compelling,” said Phil Lee, PHT President and CEO. “When using eDiaries, subjects cannot complete diaries after the fact or, worse, ahead of time; nor can they skip questions or enter illogical answers. We take great pride in our user interface design, which makes it easy for patients to report accurately on how they are feeling throughout the trial. We are delighted that so many study sponsors are choosing PHT and taking advantage of ePRO’s ability to deliver the voice of the patient, directly and without distortion.”

During the record year, PHT increased service bookings by 50%, was awarded 40% more trials than its previous high total from 2005, purchased 25,000 additional Palm devices, and grew headcount by more than 20% to support the new business. The company also expanded its robust ePRO Product Suite with the launch of the SimpleSend™ Wireless Pak™, an exclusive mobile sled and charger which attaches to traditional Palm devices, enabling wireless cellular data transmissions.

PHT also received the award for Most Innovative Business-to-Business Applications Provider from the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council. Further, PHT founder, Chief Scientific and Quality Officer, Stephen Raymond, Ph.D., was named one of the Top 100 Most Inspirational People in the Pharmaceutical Industry by PharmaVOICE magazine

“We are excited about the future of ePRO, and believe that 2007 will be even more momentous than 2006, judging by the trends we are seeing,” said Lee. “Our LogPad and StudyPad Systems are being used more frequently in multinational clinical programs, sponsors are exploring innovative new research opportunities by utilizing wirelessly integrated PHT eSense™ measurement devices, and our industry-exclusive email alert capabilities through StudyWorks™ are allowing for unprecedented levels of real-time patient safety monitoring. We look forward to what else the future holds in store for ePRO, PHT and our valued clients.”
