facility

InnerWirelessÂ, Inc., leading provider of in-building wireless systems,
today announced that The University of Chicago Hospitals and Health
System (UCHHS) will deploy the InnerWireless infrastructure at the
Bernard A. Mitchell Hospital to enhance wireless services for caregivers
and patients. The first UCHHS installation of InnerWireless occurred
last year at the new Comer Children's Hospital. InnerWireless and
strategic alliance partner, Johnson Controls, Inc., the recognized
global leader in building controls and infrastructure, collaborated
to bring unique wireless solutions to UCHHS.
Eric B. Yablonka, vice president and chief information officer of
UCHHS, said rolling out InnerWireless to a second UCHHS hospital supports
the university's goal of using wireless technology to improve patient
safety, facilitate collaboration between care givers, and improve
patient and staff satisfaction.
"After seeing how well InnerWireless performed in our pediatric
hospital, we decided that the wireless utility infrastructure was
the best way to deliver wireless service capabilities to caregivers
throughout our healthcare system," Yablonka said. "In addition
to the children's hospital and our adult inpatient facility, we plan
to deploy the Wireless Utility at our outpatient care facility, the
Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine. Having one unified wireless
distribution platform is the answer for The University of Chicago
Hospitals and Health System."
InnerWireless' Medical Grade Wireless Utility supports a full range
of wireless interpersonal, clinical and building services, and applications
via an engineered, guaranteed and managed wireless environment. Rather
than repeatedly installing and disrupting patient care areas and maintaining
multiple, discrete wireless systems, hospitals use the InnerWireless
system to distribute several wireless services including clinical
data, computerized physician order entry (CPOE), paging, public cellular
services, nurse-call systems, and patient monitoring applications.
The system can also distribute two-way radio for security and maintenance,
and wireless phone technology access for patients, visitors, and staff.
"InnerWireless is very pleased that our Medical-grade Wireless
Utility is benefiting another hospital in the University of Chicago
system," said Ed Cantwell, President and CEO of InnerWireless.
"Leveraging the Wireless Utility is just one way that UCHHS is
helping to advance healthcare technology to support better clinical
outcomes. The best practices developed by UCHHS will ultimately benefit
healthcare as a whole." The Bernard A. Mitchell Hospital joins
a distinguished group of over 20 leading hospitals - including HealthAlliance
Hospital, a member of UMass Memorial Health Care, and the National
Institutes of Health's new Mark O. Hatfield Clinical Research Center
- in using InnerWireless to create a 21st century wireless ecosystem
in their facilities.
