The Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) has extended
its
network of optical wireless systems using LightPointe's FlightStrata
product.
The Gigabit Ethernet FlightStrata system was installed by Speed
Wire
Inc. for the Cancer Center in less than 48 hours after testing.
The
system beams through a window to connect with a new office on the
campus.
The FlightStrata seamlessly integrates with the existing LightPointe
FlightSpectrum optical wireless links that connect other MSKCC campus
buildings, including a link that connects with nearby Rockefeller
University.
The optical wireless network carries high-speed voice and data,
particularly digital imaging, to remote locations on the campus.
"More and more organizations, especially many in the healthcare
industry, are using optical wireless to transmit a variety of data
at
ultra high speed," stated Bob Preston, senior VP and chief
marketing
officer at LightPointe. "In particular, hospitals and medical
facilities prefer the inherent security of optical wireless, which
uses beams of light and cannot be detected."
In addition to its optical wireless product line, LightPointe also
offers its FlightStrata 100 XA system, which combines Fast Ethernet
optical wireless with a radio that operates in the license-free
5.8
GHz band.
