LightPointe Unveils Government Connect Program to Capitalize on Growing Government Demand for High-Speed Outdoor Wireless Solutions

September 19, 2005

LightPointe, a designer and manufacturer of high-speed outdoor wireless products, today unveiled a government deployment and reseller program to meet customer demand for secure, high-bandwidth connectivity solutions in local, state and federal government, as well as military applications. The LightPointe Government Connect program is designed specifically to provide incentives, training and sales tools for resellers involved in that key vertical market while bolstering adoption of the company's Flight™ family of optical wireless products, which are on display this week at GTC East in Albany, N.Y. All LightPointe optical wireless products meet strict government requirements for the highest levels of security and bandwidth.

LightPointe's Government Connect program was kicked off this month with a one-hour web seminar to provide product training, customer case studies and technical insight into increasing optical wireless deployments throughout various government and military sectors. LightPointe also has launched a new government-focused website page (www.lightpointe.com/solutions/government.cfm) to provide ongoing information on the company's government market initiatives. For applicable channel partners, the new government-focused program offers the opportunity to become LightPointe-certified and trained, plus access to channel market development funds, lead referrals, e-newsletters, trade show support and other sales incentives.

According to Bob Preston, LightPointe's senior vice president and chief marketing officer, the company is quickly gaining traction at the state and local level, with key government installations now in place across the U.S., including Passaic County, N.J.; Baltimore County, Md.; and Miami Dade County, Fla.; and the cities of Reading, Pa., and San Francisco. "We're experiencing increased demand from a growing number of federal government agencies and military branches, including the most sensitive and critical, such as the U.S. Army, which installed a 22-link optical wireless network in Iraq," he said. "By combining LAN-to-LAN backbone, full-duplex connectivity up to 1.25 Gbps with exceptionally simple and fast deployment, LightPointe products offer distinct advantages over slower or more costly and complex connectivity alternatives, such as T1 lines or fiber-optic cable."

LightPointe's optical wireless offerings also are ideal for government and military installations that demand the rapid deployment of temporary high- bandwidth wireless links for quick restoration of communications in the event of a natural disaster or other emergency. As building-to-building connectivity solutions, they provide transmission up to Gigabit Ethernet speeds for bandwidth-intensive applications such as video, cryptography, digital imaging and disaster recovery. In addition, Flight products employ license-free spectrum worldwide, virtually eliminating the possibility of transmission interception, due to an inherent immunity to radio interference because the products use invisible beams of light to transmit and receive voice, video and data. For customers seeking an additional layer of security protection, LightPointe products are easily integrated with encryption devices.

According to Mickey Branson, executive vice president of business development for Integral Wireless Solutions, a Reading, Pa.-based reseller, LightPointe has proven to be an ideal business partner for his company's government accounts. "We're pleased with the growing interest that the government market has shown in optical wireless, which has enabled us to win strategic LightPointe customers such as the city of Reading," he said. "Cost is a key factor at the state and local level, and LightPointe supports this need with pricing that is a fraction of competing alternatives, such as fiber, as well as free of the recurring cost of leasing high-speed circuits from carriers."

A three-year warranty is supplied on all government-sold LightPointe products, which are offered to the Federal Government on Schedule 70 GSA Contract #GS-35F. Through a partnership with GTSI® Corp. (NASDAQ:GTSI) , a leading government technology solutions aggregator, LightPointe's solutions are now available on four of GTSI's contract vehicles: NASA SEWP III (Scientific, Engineering and Workstation Procurement); the NIH Electronic Commodity Store III; US Communities; and the Air Force NetCents contract.

In addition to GTSI, LightPointe's growing list of authorized government resellers includes CDW-G, of Herndon, Va.; Pacific Voice & Data, of Emeryville, Calif.; TelData Communications, of Gaithersburg, Md.; and other leading organizations. LightPointe is actively recruiting qualified resellers to meet expanding market demand. Prospective resellers can apply online at: www.lightpointe.com/partners/becomeReseller.cfm.

With thousands of systems deployed in more than 60 countries, LightPointe's products have earned high marks for linking two or more buildings in classic LAN-to-LAN connections with extraordinarily high bandwidth. All LightPointe products are license-free and use beams of light to transmit voice, data and video through the air. Entry-level models are available for less than $10,000 USD.
