HealthAlliance Hospital Selects InnerWireless® System for
Complete In-Building Wireless Coverage
FORBES
November 1, 2005
InnerWireless' Medical-grade Wireless Utility Guarantees Uniform Wireless
Coverage for Clinical and Interpersonal Communications Throughout
the 300,000-Square-Foot Hospital InnerWireless®, Inc., leading
provider of in-building wireless systems, today announced that HealthAlliance
Hospital is installing its Medical-grade Wireless Utility™™
throughout the Leominster Campus to enable clinical applications and
interpersonal communications. By choosing InnerWireless to support
the hospital's wireless technologies strategy, HealthAlliance anticipates
improved levels of patient care and safety, increased customer satisfaction
and improved productivity by enhancing clinician and caregiver communication
with secure wireless access.
InnerWireless' Wireless Utility will support a full range of wireless
interpersonal, clinical and building services and applications at
the hospital via an engineered, guaranteed and managed environment.
Rather than repeatedly installing and disrupting patient care areas
and maintaining multiple, discrete wireless systems, HealthAlliance
will use the InnerWireless system to distribute several wireless services.
These wireless services include clinical data, computerized physician
order entry (CPOE), paging, public cellular services, nurse-call systems
and future monitoring applications. The system will also distribute
two-way radio for security and maintenance and wireless phone technology
access for patients, visitors and staff.
"HealthAlliance Hospital is committed to providing our community
with the most advanced patient care possible, so we continually update
our facilities with technologies that support our mission," said
HealthAlliance Corporate Chief Information Officer Richard Mohnk.
"Of all the systems we reviewed, only the Wireless Utility from
InnerWireless could provide guaranteed wireless coverage that is required
for our caregivers to stay in contact with each other, while always
having access to clinical data needed to support clinicians in providing
superior care. The wireless platform enables technologies that help
reduce medical errors, improve communications, streamline operations
and enhance the patient experience."
"HealthAlliance executives made it clear that improved communications
was at the heart of their information technology strategy, so we designed
their in-building system to meet the specific needs of their overall
IT strategy," said Ed Cantwell, president, CEO and chairman of
InnerWireless. "Just like its clinical team, a hospital's wireless
infrastructure must be always on, always available and always in sync
with the needs of the patients and the facility. We look forward to
a long partnership with HealthAlliance, an exemplary organization
that even now is taking its already cutting-edge facilities to the
next level."
InnerWireless can also accommodate future wireless medical and communications
devices as they become available without major system upgrades that
can often be costly and time-consuming. InnerWireless is used in some
of the country's most recognizable buildings, including the 2.8 million-square-foot
Time Warner Center in Manhattan and New York City's Rockefeller Center
Concourse.
HealthAlliance joins a distinguished group of healthcare providers
-- including Children's Memorial Hospital of Chicago and the National
Institutes of Health's new Mark O. Hatfield Clinical Research Center
-- in using InnerWireless to create a 21st century wireless ecosystem
in their facilities.
